April's Promises

April promised smiles and sunshine,
All the joys of spring would be mine.
Oh, but April lied!
She brought me days of chilly raining
My joints by cruel arthritis paining
And the heavens cried.

Good-bye April!  We're through!  We're done!
You weren't able to produce the sun.
Farewell!

April's promises, though failing
Brought in May's warm winds prevailing.
I'm sure that April tried!
Don't blame April that the winter
With a head-lock cruelly pinned her.
Her moment was denied.

Good-bye April!  You're done!  You're through!
Next year, Babe, we'll seek the sun anew.
Farewell!
